This program is an extension of Subaru's Love Promise, the stated goal of which is to do right by the community and to partner with nonprofit education, health, community, environment and animal organizations. Caring for pets is an integral part of this program and is the primary impetus behind National Make A Dog's Day.

Alan Bethke, the Senior Vice President of Marketing for Subaru of America, had this to say, "Pets play a big role in our lives and the lives of Subaru owners. While we support efforts all year dedicated to the betterment of animals' lives, in October, we make a concerted effort to help shelter pets, particularly the hard-to-adopt ones, find loving homes."

Officially set for October 22, Subaru is set to work with the ASPCA to champion special needs dogs and sponsor a nationwide effort to help the hardest-to-adopt shelter dogs. Pet owners are invited to do something special for their companions as well, sharing their adventures using the hashtag #MakeADogsDay.

Additionally, throughout the month of October, select Subaru retailers will be collecting unused pet supplies for donation to shelters in need. Subaru will back up these donations with over 5000 shelter supply kits and new pet parent kits, as well as sponsorship of pet adoption events.
